El Cajas and the New Cathedral: The Past Two Weeks in Photos

It’s been over a month, guys!!! Here are some of my favorite photos from the past two weeks:

Last weekend, I went hiking through El Cajas National Park with a few friends! We ended up hiking to an elevation of over 14,000 feet, and we were treated to some amazing views from on top of San Luis Mountain. The mountains were not the only unusual sight we had in El Cajas — we came across a group of real wild llamas!!

From on top of Cuenca’s famous New Cathedral, we were able to see the entire city!! The New Cathedral’s blue domes are of the most recongizeable landmarks in the entire city, and are found directly in the busy center. Portions of its front facade are still under construction.

The majority of Cuenca’s population buys their weekly produce from one of several bustling markets. The past two Saturdays, I went to the market at Feria Libre with my host family to buy everything for the upcoming week from individual vendors — most grow and raise the produce on their properties bordering the city, while some vendors (most notably fishermen) bring their wares from the coast every weekend.

Bonus: Un gallo y una gallina!

  1. What great pictures, the colors are so vibrant. Just love the hen and rooster, they look just like mine and the brown eggs!!! What’s with the eggs in plastic bags? Is that how you buy them and take them home?
